Some Insects Irradiated with Rad Source’s Patented Quatar ® Technology
RS 2400 Q from Rad Source
Rad Source designs and manufactures safe and convenient x-ray irradiation instruments designed specifically for the sterile insect technique (SIT), reducing the burden of agricultural pests and vector-borne diseases worldwide.
Sterile Insect Technique (SIT)
Pests are detrimental to both the agricultural industry and human health. The rapid reproduction and population growth of these pests causes agricultural losses in crops and livestock, economic damage, and the uncontrolled spread of harmful diseases, called vector-borne diseases. Which are carried by certain organisms that feed on blood, such as mosquitoes, and are transmitted to humans through bites.
One method used to eliminate pests is the sterile insect technique (SIT). SIT uses radiation to massively sterilize male pests in a population, and these males, when released into the environment, cannot produce viable offspring when they mate with females. SIT has been used successfully to control invasive insect pests since the 1940s.

The best way to confirm that you have delivered the proper radiation dose for your Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) program.
The BugTag SIT series are radiation process verification indicator devices used in the Sterile Insect Technique program.
SIT was introduced as an ecological method of insect pest control. SIT laboratories around the world breed, sterilize and release pests of interest to agriculture in that region. In some cases, the program aims to eradicate a pest completely.
Verification of the sterilization of these insects is an important component of the SIT, since non-sterile pests could, when released, reproduce, and establish new colonies.
BugTag SIT indicators can be customized to meet the dose requirements and tagging needs of each TIE program.
